Welcome to Modular Sound – your partner for professional audio post-production in Chemnitz. I am Ingolf-Christopher Facius – Tonmeister for audiovisual media. With my sound design studio in Chemnitz I fulfilled one of my biggest dreams after my studies at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. My wish is to strengthen and actively contribute to shaping Saxony as a place for art, culture and new ideas.
My passion is the sound design of narrative content. Whether it’s a film, TV or streaming, audio play, commercial, podcast or audio walk – I’m happy to support any production with a high-quality and individually tailored sound layer. I especially focus upon the creative use of next generation audio formats, in particular Dolby Atmos.

Regardless if it’s a cold film set in the middle of a forest at night or a warm sound stage, Ingolf’s enthusiasm for auditory storytelling is equally infectious everywhere. Dolby Atmos is one of the leading formats in the field of Next Generation Audio (NGA). It recreates an immersive, three-dimensional soundscape in which every sound object can be freely positioned in the room. In contrast to classic multi-channel audio systems, in which the audio signals are assigned to fixed channels, Dolby Atmos works with so-called “audio objects”. This enables a more precise placement of sounds and a spatial depth that draws the listener right into the action – whether it’s a movie, series, audio drama or music.
What makes Dolby Atmos so special is its versatility: the format adapts to different playback systems, from headphones to home theater systems to the world’s largest movie theaters, providing an immersive listening experience on all platforms.
However, Next Generation Audio (NGA) is more than Dolby Atmos. It is an umbrella term for advanced audio formats such as among others MPEG-H Audio, Auro 3D and DTS:X, which also offer immersive sound experiences. Common to most NGA formats is the ability to use object-based audio processing, which allows sounds to be placed individually regardless of the speaker configuration.
In addition, some NGA solutions offer interactive functions that give the listener more control over the sound experience. For example, dialog can be turned up, background noises can be adjusted or additional language versions can be selected – all of which can be controlled directly by the listener. This flexibility opens up new dimensions in accessibility design, e.g. through optimized audio versions for people with hearing impairments.
Why is this so important?
Next generation audio makes it possible to tell stories in a more emotional and realistic way. Thanks to the precise localization of sounds and immersive sound reproduction, the listener becomes part of the soundscape.
Another highlight is Dolby Atmos Music, which extends this experience to music. Voices, instruments and effects move freely in the room and make it possible to experience music in a completely new way.
